Vacation Church School

A Summer Program for Children/Youth of the City

Click Here for this Year's Flyer

Listening For God
June 19-22, 9:30-11:45 a.m.
Age 3 – Grade 6
This session will explore where and how we can listen for God. Explorers will “travel” within an almost-life-sized version of our community. Over the course of the week they will visit a cathedral, library, school, park, theater, and museum. In each of these places we will learn amazing things about God. Biblical study, theological reflection, art, and music are important components of the session.

The Musical-Drama Workshop
June 26-29, 9:30 – 12:00 noon
Grades 1 – 8
The musical-drama workshop is a highlight of the summer program. The children will produce the musical Daniel, Chapter Six, the story of Daniel in the Lion’s Den. They will have a lot of fun as they prepare lines, learn to move around the stage and sing. The musical will be presented in the evening of June 29.

Exploring the City
July 17-20, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Grades 6 – 9
The city is a wonderful place. Youth will take a trip each day to explore how the city works, understand issues it faces, and see that the Church is concerned with city life. Lunch will be provided each day at ethnic restaurants.

Building a Shed: Habitat for Humanity
August 7-10, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Grades 6 – 9

Many Habitat for Humanity houses were built without garages. This has made it difficult for people to find space for storage. The participants in this program will build a shed to be given to a family living in a Habitat for Humanity house. The project helps youth explore issues of affordable housing, gain some experience in construction work, and have fun.

Youth Ensemble
Musical Presentation: August 23 & 24, 7:00 p.m.
Rehearsals: Evenings, schedule will be provided.
Grades 7 – 12 and Adults

Junior and Senior High School students will work to produce the musical Fiddler on the Roof. The youth ensemble is an opportunity to both participate in a drama and establish and nurture relationships.
