Rev. Philip Wheaton, an Episcopal priest and former director of the Ecumenical Program for Interamerican Communication and Action, at a Dialogue Breakfast in August 2010
Dialogue events occur periodically at Holy Trinity as another component of the congregation’s desire to engage what is going on in the world from a Christian perspective. Often held over breakfast, such dialogues occur in response to the presentation of a social commentator, cultural observer, biblical scholar, or theologian in which important concerns affecting the community of faith can be identified and explored together.
Upcoming dialogue events:
- “Peace and Human Rights in Colombia” with Father Jesus Alberto Franco, Thursday, October 28, 12:00-1:30 p.m., $5 includes light meal. A highly respected human rights advocate in Colombia, Padre Alberto currently serves as Executive Secretary of the Inter-church Commission for Justice and Peace (Comision Intereclesial de Justicia y Paz). He has been a featured speaker for the World Council of Churches before the United Nations and at the 2009 School of the Americas Watch protest. He is well versed in the effects of U.S. foreign policy and recent developments regarding U. S. military aid. This dialogue lunch coincides with Holy Trinity’s hosting of an art exhibit called Remember Me: Voices of the Silenced in Colombia. The exhibit is sponsored by Lutheran World Relief and brings to life the decades-long conflict in Colombia.
